Fire Crews Battle 3-Alarm Fire in Historic Downtown Sumner

Shortly before 3 AM on 10/28/2022, EPFR crews were dispatched to a commercial fire in downtown Sumner’s 900 block of Main Street. Arriving crews quickly upgraded the fire to a 3-alarm response.

Thirty units from surrounding fire agencies, Sumner Police Department, Sumner Public Works, and Puget Sound Energy worked the blaze. Crews quickly contained the majority of the fire to the building of origin. Ultimately, three businesses were destroyed on the historic Main Street strip, and several neighboring businesses were impacted by smoke and water. No injuries were reported.

An EPFR crew remained on-scene overnight to maintain a fire watch. Sumner Police Department also stayed overnight to protect vulnerable businesses. The Pierce County Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire.

The Sumner Main Street Association has established a donation link at www.sumnerfire.com for the community to support the businesses impacted by this tragic fire.
