Lighters or Toys?
DO YOU KNOW WHAT A NOVELTY LIGHTER IS? It works like any other lighter, except that it looks like a child’s toy. Toy-like lighters by design have characteristics that make them appealing and intriguing to adults and children alike. This presents a risk to our youth that is both unacceptable and preventable. 
As of July 26, 2009, the selling and distribution of novelty lighters is prohibited in Washington State. Prohibiting the sale of these devices will protect children from a dangerous instrument that encourages curiosity and invites unintentional misuse. Novelty/toy-like lighters place children and their families at risk for burn injuries, death and property loss.
