THE EMPOYEES OF EAST PIERCE FIRE AND RESCUE welcome the opportunity to provide citizens the chance to experience first-hand the daily operations of the Fire Department. As an observer only and under constant supervision, our ride along/job shadow participants will get as much close up, real life experience as possible.

Because of the high demand and scheduling complexities, we require the completed Job Shadow and Ride Along Packet a minimum of two weeks prior to the requested dates. Each job shadow/ride along experience is limited to 24 hours over a two-week period unless otherwise agreed.

We are thrilled with the level of interest we receive from students. A career as a firefighter is rewarding and challenging and the job outlook is good. Firefighting and paramedicine is expected to grow as fast, if not faster, than the average for all jobs over the next several years. Candidates for these positions are expected to face keen competition as these positions are highly attractive and sought after.

Students who wish to complete a school project with the fire service get the advantage of learning early on what they can do to better prepare themselves for a career in the fire service. As such, we have a high demand and limited capacity to accomodate requests from students.

If you are interested, you must complete a Job Shadow and Ride Along packet, provide the number of hours needed and dates for completion.

We regret that we can not accomodate all requests, but will provide as much opportunity as possible.

Please note the age requirements listed below. Because of the number of requests, exceptions cannot be made.

Applicants must be 18 years of age to ride on emergency apparatus. If you are under 18, there may be options to job shadow and do community service within our public education department.

• Completed Job Shadow/Ride Along Packet
• Photocopy of driver's license
• Proof of 2-step TB Skin Test within the past 6 months
• Measles, Mumps and Rubella immunization/immunity
• Varicella (Chicken Pox) immunization/immunity
• Passenger Waiver
